The EPA in collaboration with the National Ozone Action Unit of Hydro meteorological Division, Ministry of Agriculture, hosted a two-day seminar during September 12-13, 2019. The workshop saw participation of 154 primary and secondary Schools in Region 2, along with, young aspiring teachers from Cyril Potter College of Education. The seminar aimed to: provide a greater understanding of the role of the ozone layer; raise awareness on the importance of the ozone layer; and threats to its protection; highlight successes gained under the Montreal Protocol; as well as; Guyana’s progress in eliminating Ozone-depleting substances. Moreover, the goal was to convey actions that are needed for sustained protection of the ozone layer and reduction of greenhouse gases. Through theoretical and practical exercises, students were made aware of how important it is to protect themselves from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
