Focus group meeting to discuss the  Environmental Authorisation for Sea Ports and Terminals

 

The Environmental Protection Agency held a focus group meeting with key partners to discuss the authorisation of Sea Ports and terminals that collects, stores, transports and dispose of waste materials. The Environmental Protection Act, Cap 20:05, Laws of Guyana requires that, these facilities to be permitted before they can carry out such activities. Various Agencies responsible for the management of Sea Ports and terminals were invited to the meeting to discuss ideas their organisation’s roles and responsibilities in this regard; identify legislative gaps/overlaps, mechanisms for bridging these gaps as well as coordination efforts moving forward. This focus group meeting was an outcome from initial discussions between the Maritime Administration and the EPA is regards Guyana obligations under the MARPOL and authorisation of Sea Ports and terminals.
