EPA conducts water quality inspection at Marudi Mountain

The EPA conducted inspections to monitor the effects of mining activities on water-bodies around the Marudi Mountain. Seven (7) creeks which are in close proximity to Indigenous communities around the mining area were sampled. The water samples were analysed and found to be within the acceptable limits. The mercury level for all samples were under 0.0001mg/L and WHO guidelines for drinking water quality  is 0.001mg/L .

A separate inspection was conducted after receiving complaints of mining affecting the Para Bara Indigenous  Community. However, it was found that no mining activity has been undertaken in the area for over a year.
